Afrofest 2017 - Blackness Yes!

By now, those who follow my daily journey on social media know that I am unapologetically Black! So there was no missing Afrofest (never). Uh-uh...

This event is not just a good ole "lyme" for me. It is a safe space. It is a cultural awakening. It's where I am reminded (not that I need it) that I come from an exceptional race with the most amazing set of human beings. Afrofest is a celebration of the excellence that is Blackness!

From the indigenous cuisine of The Motherland (puff puff, suya and dodo) that leaves a burst of flavour in your mouth (that's why i'm smiling btw)...

Side note: Many of us from the Caribbean eat the same dishes our African brothers and sisters have been eating long before my mother was even born. Sometimes, it's just prepared differently and called something else, but very similar in taste. I can't wait for the day when I land on that African continent. I just know that the connection, the energy will be powerful. First thing I'll do is find a food shop. (My belly doesn't play!)

to the rich, pulsating African rhythms that force your body to let loose and connect with your soul...

Afrofest is where you can learn a thing or two about the culture of my people; my Ancestors, even as a Black Caribbean woman with a little rhythm in her waistline. LOL! I used the opportunity to get in touch with my dance roots. Don't judge me! *covers face*

Oh and did I mention Black Beauty? There was no shortage of that Black Girl Magic!

All in all, Afrofest brought out the Black Pride in all of us. It even took me back to the Caribbean with music from KASSAV! Whoop Whoop!

My partner and I had to represent! Hehe!

See you next year and remember... Black is absolutely Beautiful!
