A summer weekend at Bartholomeus Klip Drizzle and Dip

Spent my birthday weekend at my favorite place bartholomew clip Bo Herman. It’s been two years since I was there. It was also my birthday weekend and a strange time of covid when the lodge was closed with a nonsensical drinking ban. South Africa’s borders have been closed due to the Omnikron variant debacle, and tourism has all but shattered. Some of my close family and friends have stayed at the perfect large private Heron House. Since there were no other guests, we had the property to ourselves.
Bartholomeus Klip is a small luxury lodge/house on a farm right next to the Elandsburg Nature Reserve. The main house has 5 luxurious rooms and private bathrooms. There are two of his self-contained houses, the Heron House and the Wild Olive House. One sleeps 10 and the other 6.
As soon as you arrive, you won’t want to leave, and you don’t have to. Accommodation at the house guarantees his full board package, which includes sumptuous brunch, decadent afternoon tea and dinner. Game drives are included along with activities such as biking and kayaking on the lake.
The kitchen is headed by Chef Louise Gillette, who has run the lodge for over 20 years with her twin sister Leslie. You arrive as a stranger and leave as a friend as is a testament to the six British couples we meet who return year after year. We have met and are currently scheduling our stays to overlap when visiting the Cape. A couple on her 15th visit told us a lot about the place.
Two days of disconnection from the world and a full day of swimming in the farm’s dam and pool was just what we needed after a very busy vacation.
We enjoyed an outdoor candlelit BBQ dinner on the second magical evening.
