After a 20-year hiatus, Tanzania has finally made an entry in the Oscar Awards for ‘Best International Film’.
Amil Shivji’s romantic drama Vuta N’Kuvute (Tug of War) was released in Swahili with a predominantly African cast.
Shivji used his Instagram handle to express his gratitude for the recognition.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be selected as Tanzania’s official submission to the 95th Academy Awards. It has been 20 years since Tanzania was recognized by the world’s most prestigious film platform.
“It’s a small step, but the future of Tanzanian cinema is finally in our hands. The wave of Swahili filmmakers grows every day with pride, intelligence and audacity,” he said. is writing
