Spotify’s Fresh Finds Africa taps Preyé for September….Nigerian independent artist gets Spotify spotlight

Launched in March 2022, Fresh Finds Africa is designed to provide a starting point for emerging independent artists to reach new audiences. The program is built around its eponymous playlist and access to tools and initiatives that help artists foster long and thriving careers.
Born in Lagos, Preyé Itams grew up inspired by his father’s music library and the music he played while working. He has the traditional sound of jazz, soul and melodic birds such as Jill Scott, Enya, Brenda Facy and Lauryn Hill. With her first release in 2015, Mortia introduced her as her inspiring voice in her community of emerging independent arte.
In 2018, she collaborated with two pioneers of the scene, Tay Iwar and Santi, on Space, introducing her feel-good poetic songwriting to a wider audience. After quitting her rigorous job in Canada to focus on her music, Preyé made her case with rebellious soulful songs like Peace Of Mind and Red Wine. Her fragile yet unwavering essence and dynamic vocals of Preyé’s music have captured the attention of her editors and fans.
This June, Billboard named her hot single, Malibu, as one of the top R&B discoveries. She was recently selected as one of her six artists for Spotify’s Africa Month global campaign, Spotify Sounds of Africa, alongside LADIPOE, Zoë Modiga, Nomfundo Moh, Chris Khaiga and Nikita Kering. .
Inspired by their recent wins, Preyé is excited about the opportunity to reach even more fans. “I still celebrate every playlist addition, so being highlighted as Spotify’s Freshly Found Artist of the Month is absolutely amazing. We’re excited about the opportunity to share it with R&B lovers,” says the soul singer.
Her debut EP, Don’t Look Down, released in September, centers on love and self-discovery, and features Nigerian rapper LADIPOE on lead single Love, Today. Her budding diva is unburdened as she sings about finding and loving herself and the people around her.
Each month, Fresh Finds Africa spotlights one artist selected by the Spotify Music team. This is a key aspect of Spotify’s initiative created to support the African music scene, including RADAR & EQUAL.
